Season Opening Days

Season Opening Days

It’s time to say goodbye to the wintery indoors-ness of archery, and get back into the summer outside goodness!

All Archers in the district are invited to come along to the Summer Season Opening Days this October. Please keep an eye on the upcoming events at http://www.adaa.co.nz/upcoming-events/

The Season Opening Days are recommended shooting for all ages and bow types, and are always popular – not only because of the shooting but also because of the BBQs! Even if the weather is not so hot, at least you get fed at the end…

The season Opening Days last all October:

  • Shore Archery Club – Ken Leyman Memorial Shoot – 2 October
  • Auckland Archery Club – 9 October
  • Mountain Green Archery Club – 16 October
  • Lakeview Archery Club – ADAA Field Championships – 23 October
  • Mercury Bay Archery Club – ADAA Clout Championships – 30 October

More details can be found on the link above.

We’re looking forward to seeing you all there!

2016 ADAA Indoor Championships Results

2016 ADAA Indoor Championships Results

The Auckland District Archery Association Indoor Championships were held at the Mountain Green Indoor Range on the 16th and 17th of July. There was an excellent turnout of archers all across the district, with four flights being shot on the Saturday morning, afternoon, and Sunday morning and afternoon also. Each archer shot the World Archery 18m round, which was 60 arrows at 18m on a 40cm target face.

ADAA would like to congratulate Stephen Florence of Mountain Green Archery Club on breaking the Archery NZ Open Record for the Men’s Recurve, shooting a 587 (the previous record having been 581 since 2003). Well done Stephen!

ADAA wish to make a statement that there was a mistake made in the scoring for the Intermediate Compound Men’s division, where the archers were incorrectly told to score the outer ten ring, instead of the inner ten. The scores shot on the day will stand for the results of the tournament (and would not have changed the results nonetheless), but unfortunately this does make the archers’ scores invalid for claiming any World Archery or Archery NZ records or pins. The archers involved have been informed of this error, and the ADAA wishes to issue an apology to those archers.

The ADAA has sought independent clarification on the issue, and will be seeking further confirmation in the rules for Archery NZ so that a similar incident does not happen in future. For any questions please email adaa.secretary@gmail.com.

The results can be found attached here, and on the Archery NZ website.

ADAA 600 Shoots

ADAA 600 Shoots

The Auckland District Archery Association has determined that more shoots should be held on a novice to intermediate level, and have proposed to adopt the “600 Round” for their members. This shoot will be held once a month in an Auckland-based target club (with the exception of October), and is open to all members of any club to participate.

The shoot will be free to join, be held at 1pm at the nominated club, with shooting commencing no later than 1.30pm, and district records will be maintained. Ribbons can be only be claimed by any archer who is a member of an ADAA club.

The shoot is 90 arrows at 30 metres. All archers begin on a 122cm target face. Once an archer has shot 600 points or greater on that target face, the next shoot they must drop their target face size to 80cm, then 60cm, then 40cm. Archers who proceed beyond this point may opt to shoot a 20cm spot.

There will be a ribbon system available for this. Ribbons will be free when won by the archer.

122cm = White ribbon, 600 points
80cm = Black ribbon, 600 points
60cm = Blue ribbon, 600 points
40cm = Red ribbon, 600 points
20cm = Gold ribbon, 600 points

Any questions please contact the secretary at adaa.secretary@gmail.com

Thank you to Mt Green Archery Club for another awesome weekend of shooting. It was a beautiful day on Saturday, followed by another cracker on Sunday. However the clouds started to roll over and we heard thunder. We were lucky we shot so quickly – and we finished just in time to see the thunderstorm roll in.

The Results of the district championships are posted below. Big thanks to Kerry Hoole for his organising of the event, and the pictures! Thanks to Kevlin Smillie and Richard Scheib for judging, Frances Ross and the “Executive Team” for their hard work in getting the results in on time.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the next ADAA Events – keep an eye on our website: http://www.adaa.co.nz/upcoming-events/
